Re: Why is music theory so neglected?

It might be more fun as well for those who know music theory, but it's still hard to learn.

Re: Jokes

A man hits a dog with his car. He reads the dog's collar to find the address of the owner, and he goes and knocks on her door. When the owner opens it, he says "I'm sorry, but I was driving and I hit your dog". Seeing the owner's reaction, he hastened to add, "and I take full responsi...

Re: Why are hot dogs called hot dogs?

ChiefExecutive wrote: August 2nd, 2020, 3:36 pm So why don't you ask why are cars called cars?
Because that is not the question. Yes, there are other questions to be asked, but not all at once. Ultimately, we do not choose because the choice we are making is better than the alternative, but because it is better than not choosing.

Re: Why are hot dogs called hot dogs?

ChiefExecutive wrote: July 29th, 2020, 4:03 pm I don't understand the question. You're asking "Why are hot dogs called hot dogs?". So we see you agree with it being called that. So you may as well ask "Why are cars called cars?".
Accepting that they are called hot dogs doesn't mean committing not to ask why.

Some of them see eye contact as a threat. Won't masks make that even scarier?

Will the zoo animals be scared when the zoos reopen?

They're not used to seeing so many visitors now, and they don't even remember seeing masked people.

Re: Sleep is weirdly stigmatized.

I think that's only kids. Although there is always some competition about whose worse off, like old ladies saying how much worse their medical conditions they have than the others. But with discussions about who's worse off, there are no undertones of "look at me, I'm superhuman". Sometim...

Does American culture place too much emphasis on productivity?

In the United States, it seems that people are expected to put most of their focus on their careers. A career is not just a way of making money to live on.

Bad jokes

My wife: I went to buy cheese to make pizza today, but they were out of shredded cheese, so I bought a block.
Me: Is that a good thing or a bad thing?
My wife: Well, it isn't grate.

They smell bad, they taste bad, and they are high in sugar.

Re: Schools should open in the Catskills

How would that work? People should be forced to own two homes? Why would this force people to own two homes? Do people own two homes for summer camp? You mean we should have boarding schools. I don't see the advantage in that. The summer camps already have the grounds, and kids would be able to hav...
